How well do you launch new ideas into orbit? If you do this well, fly on and fly by fearless astronaut. If not, your “lightweight” may have gained mass in the form of prescriptive or dogmatic views that constrain lift off and bring new ideas crashing back to the planet. Many large scale efforts struggle because more process takes precedence over more product and customer learning. If you want to reduce gravity wells and increase learning velocity, this session is fueled with ideas.



Your space oddessy starts by reviewing baggage that is deemed essential. From process baggage to technology baggage to tool baggage and beyond, nothing is free some skeptical assessment. Each space cadet will examine their baggage, challenging all excess weight to show real and measurable value. Real value, defined as the learning that comes from producing and validating product increments, will be weighed against the gravity wells of structure (process, roles, team structure and architecture) that inhibit launch and learning.



You will leave the session with comparisons of structure vs learning for your team, program or portfolio. You will also work with others to create concrete ideas for challenging excess baggage and tools for moving towards the least amount of process with the most real and measurable value. We need more lift offs, more often and fewer people held back by structure that contains learning.
