Collaborative Planning When You Can’t Afford to Fly (Steven Younge, Alex Pukinskis) FULL

Do you underutilize collaborative planning because you can’t get everyone together in one location at the same time? Do you worry that remote attendees to your meetings are multi-tasking? We'd like to share solutions to these issues.

Agile approaches are designed with face-to-face interactions at the forefront, but let’s face it - most of our companies are distributed across timezones. And while travel helps, sooner or later you’re going to need to hold a big, collaborative meeting without getting everyone face-to-face.

High-end videoconferencing works well for small meetings, but as you get bigger, it’s not a prerequisite, and can even inhibit success. In fact, creativity, expertise, and free tools are the most important ingredients in any distributed collaboration effort.

In this session, we’ll show you how to adapt collaboration techniques to work in a distributed meeting. We will look at real world situations and free tools that allow your distributed teams to ideate faster (reduce cycle time) and with greater shared understanding (reduce waste). And we’ll teach you how to avoid the pitfalls of mis-applying traditional facilitation techniques to distributed groups.
